Removing the speedometer

Ok...I've decided to look into the odometer problem. I have the speedometer loose in the dash hole but it wont come out. How do I get it unhooked from the cable that runs down to the trip reset knob.? Is that what's holding it in there???

The reset cable is simply pressed into the back of the speedo; there is a plastic barb that gets wider after it pushes through the hole. You should just be able to pull it out, I think.

Or you could take the knob off the bottom, then remove the nut that holds the cable onto the underside of the dash.
