What's a good price on a 2.7 + 915?

What is a good price on a complete, 2.7 engine with a 915 transmission? I assume this combination would work fine to put into a 914. I am sure there are some additional items required for the upgrade but I'll worry about that when I come to it. I just want to source an engine at this time.

thanks

Go to the Pelican 911 classified section and do a search for Jon Merck I believe he might still have a 2.7 for sale. I just bought a 3.0 from him and seems like a nice guy. He might have a 915 tranny also.

if you're gonna run a 2.7, why not stick with the 901 gearbox?

I could. I am no expert on the topic but from what I read the 901 is limited to about 200 hp. The 2.7 in a stock setup is around 165 or 180 hp so it would work assuming no engine modifications. I am planning on attempting to rebuild the engine myself and possibly making some performance upgrades so I may exceed the 200 hp limit. If not I can just sell the 915 at a later date.

I made an offer to the guy selling the 2.7/915 combo for $3400 delivered. He never responded to me. Not sure if he is just slow to respond or got offended. I think he was asking around $4500 originally.

If I don't hear back from him I might make an offer to Jon Merck who was selling the same setup for about $3250. He sold the 915 but it looked like he still had the engine.

I'm in no hurry. I'm just starting to accumulate parts for a winter project.
