Correct flywheel for 2.4L Conversion

In gathering parts for my my 2.4L (built up to 2.5L, Webers, high comp pistons, aggressive cams) swap I forgot all about the flywheel. In doing some research I have found that I need an "early" 911 flywheel. I am not exactly sure what an "early" 911 flywheel is. When I look at for the part here the description is as follows

"For all 911 and 914-6 Engines (1965-72), Must Be Used With 911 Engines From (1972-77)"

Sorry but that does not make a lick of sense to me. My buddy says he has one of a 72' that I can have. Does anybody know if this will work?

The 72 911 had the 915 gearbox, so if you're trying to hook your Six up to a stock 914 box, the flywheel won't work. That first "72" is most likely a typo.

The 911 up through 1969 used the "901" gearbox, and the 914 transmission is a version of that gearbox. You can use the flywheel and clutch from any 2.0 911 (those go up through 1969). The 70-71 flywheels may work (not sure; but from the above it sounds like they will!), but the clutch setup is different.

I hope that's a little more clear.

Thanks Dave,

That is what I figured. I just couldn't remember when the 915s were first used in 911s, I wasn't sure if it was 74' or 70'.

I always appreciate your quick responses. I am sure I will need many more as the project progresses.
