Newbie to list from Alaska

Hi everyone, I just stumbled onto this site a few days ago and decided to join. I have owned a 72 1.7 for the last 23 years that was totaled on both ends 25 years ago. I have replaced both ends and then put a Rayco body kit on it. I am currently working on changing over to 5 hole 944 phone dials and rebuilding brakes. I have a 2.0 with a side shift tranny along with all of the rebuild parts that I bought from a guy that was giving up on a project. Question: To convert from a 1.7 to a 2.0 is it just a "plug and play" proposition or is the wiring different in the body? The 2.0 that I have was unplugged from it's previous home including the ECU.

I believe you can just plug and play, at least as far as the electrical bits go. You'll need the 2.0's EFI wiring harness, but I think you can make do with the 1.7's engine wiring harness. (You may have to extend one or two wires though; if you have the 2.0 version use that. Or get a 99% brand new "rebuilt" one from Jeff Bowlsby, http://members.rennlist.com/914_wiring_harnesses .)
