Post 17" wheel options

I have just completed my 5 lug conversion. I have 15x7" with 4 7/8" offset fuchs replicas with 205/55-15 Kuhmos mounted currently. I have about 1" additional clearance to the inside rear and about 1/2" clearance to the outside rear lip. My wife (the boss) and I like the turbo style wheels. There is a set of 7.5x17"s with 23et offset on the classified bulliten board. Mike Mueller helped me calculate that these would not fit my car. What other options do I have. Didn't Porsche make 17x7 turbo wheels for the front of 911s. Didn't the later 968s and 928s come with turbo style wheels? Where can I find out more?

The turbo "twist" wheels will fit. I have seen it done twice before. Bothe cars were using adapters, so I would guess you will need at least an inch thick spacer.

Are you saying that you can fit turbo "twist" factory wheels with just adaptors and no need for flares?

iustasail, (is that "I use to sail" ??)

anyways, sweet looking car, what size tires are you running and did you have to tweak the fenders any? Any other picture of the car, like a good side view?

What is 911R off set? I thought they were 5 1/8" back spacing. Do they make turbo wheels with the 911R off set?

Thumbs up

wow, those are cool wheels. how wide are they? I would also really like to know the offset. What size tires are those? That setup is sweet!

I may be a traditionalist, but I think Fuchs look the best! I think 16's are big enough, especially when the car is low, and a little more tire sidewall greatly improves the ride.

Here is my 914 w/ the 16 inch Fuchs:

Mike Mueller:
"(is that "I use to sail" ??)" that it; (in my pre-Porsche days!)

The rear rubber is 215x45/17; front is 205x45/17; the fender inner lip has been rolled up on all four fenders; other than that they are stock; clearances are tight but do not rub; suspension is very stiff and all bushings are polyurethane; which helps eliminate slop that would otherwise cause rubbing problems.

Bee Jay,

I do not know the # for 911R Fuchs offsets; they are on the BBS somewhere; I knew that the 911R 7in wide rims fit on 914s and early 911s with no modifications and TTS racing was able to order the 17in Revolution rims cut to this spec.

I wanted low profile rubber with stock rolling radius; these 17in rims w/ 45 profile tires are just about the same so my spedo is right and my 75-80mph rpm is nice and low; for a high revving six anyway! ;D

A friend just bought a new Boxster, non S. The wheels are something like turbo twists. They are 17x7s(w55 offset) in front and 17x8s (with 48 offset) in the back. Using Mikes formula the front backspacing is 7"divided by 2 +(55 divided by 25.4)= 5.67" offset. So these wheels would sit .67" further inside than my 15x7 with 5" offset. These may fit. The car is brand new. I wonder if he will let me jack it up, and try his front wheels on my car? The tires in front are 205/40-17. I would need 215/45-17s to keep the speedometer accurate.

Hey, check this out. http://wheelenhancement.com/
Sizes, offsets, and pictures. I only have one additional question, what is the backspacing/offset of stock 914 wheels? I know that my empi look alikes sat a good 1/2" outside of stock. What is the backspacing of 2liter alloys?
