how loud are megaphones

Thinking about putting them on my car. I have a Bursch exhaust on right now (PO installed) and I just wanted to know how loud megaphones are.

They will be over 110DB from 40 feet.

For comparison:

Laguna Seca only allows us 96db on open track days.

A stock Viper GTS belts out 97-98db. (They lift when they get near the track sound meter)

Assuming you have a 4 cyl because you have a bursch, I haven't seen many megs on the fours. More like a straight pipe turned away from the driver out the pass side. Those are about the same as megs and that is pretty loud. You can put a super trap tip on the straight pipe and dial the sound to your likeing.

They sold them several years ago. They bolt strait to your heat exchanger with the factory hanger. They are very loud. They even have the little air diffuser in them that the 911 strait pipes had.

Several people in my area are running Flowmaster mufflers off of there Bursch headers. This sounds like a nice combo and it replaces the crappy fiberglass packed muffler the common Bursch ships with.

Just for the helluvit a week or two ago I drove around the neighborhood in my (new-to-me) 2.4/four track project car, with no muffler on the header.

It sounded very cool and very very loud. I think every neighbor within 3 blocks was looking out their window wondering WTF that loud bright orange funny looking car was. Thank god the cops were busy at Krispy Kreme or something.

I pulled off the nice SS street exhaust setup the PO had fabricated, and now am running a straight-thru Dynomax race muffler off the header collector. Exits straight back, to the right of the license plate area. The Dynomax sounds awesome and should be legal for 96dBA tracks. I haven't put a meter on it yet but it is nowhere near as loud as open pipes or even a 2in/2out 911 type of sport muffler. It does pretty much drown out the dual Weber 44IDF's, which the previous street muffler didn't.

I also have a Flowmaster 40 series to try out, but it won't quite fit without getting another flange stub welded with a little angle to it. With the right collector stubs, I will be able to swap between 3 different mufflers, or an open megaphone in minutes if desired, for different sound or backpressure levels.

I'm enjoying the Palo Alto shop location. Its right near a Cal Train station that has trains running until 12:30 am every day. We have a "test block" with no business' or parking.

The cops stop by weekly to hang out and see what we are "testing".

I thought I would never be able to make noise in Silicon Valley. Funny how things change when real estate and rental properties lose there value.

Cant wait to hear the DynoMax.

I use a "stinger" on tracks where no noise is in effect such as CA Speedway, Willows or Las Vegas and because of the radical cam in my big 4 it is really loud. When going through the pits to pre-grid the NASCAR mechanics would hold their ears! I think the more radical the cam, the louder the engine since I have run our stock 1974 2l with out a muffler and it sounds no where near as loud?

and John's car sounds like a six. I've heard it on the front straight at CA Speedway. It's loud. And it hauls a$$.
