74 Tach wire

Hi,
I have a 74 2.0 that the previous owner had a MSD put on then disconnected, he did not put the tach wire back and I'm not sure what wire it is... any help would be great! I had the tach looked at and it works.

Thanks!

Should be a black wire with a purple stripe ("black/purple") coming out of the same wiring harness as one or two other wires to the coil, plus the one to the oil pressure sender and such. It should hook up to the (-) terminal on the coil, the same one that the green wire from the points hooks to. There is a thicker black wire that may have a red stripe which carries power to the coil and is hooked up to the (+) terminal on the coil.

The purple stripe and the red stripe can fade over the years, so they can look pretty muddy or even disappear... Look closely!
