advice please on checking a 914
Hi, im checking a 73 914 today. What should I look for? The owner says the motor (1.8) was rebuilt and rust was repaired. He's asking $3750 and is local to me. He says he has 9k into the car over the last 8 years. Heres a pic...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1194353159.jpg

There is a good buyer's guide on this site. The main thing is to look real hard for rust which may structurally effect the car. Take a flashlight and a screwdriver.
Buyer's Guide |
First, make sure what year it is. Check the VIN, eg: 473 or 474 the third digit of the VIN is the model year. The 1.8 was not offered until well into the 1974 model year.

Don't use the flashlight on the panel you are looking at. Put it behind what you are looking at so that you can spot all the pinholes in the rust. Do this under the trunk panels.

my mistake, it a 74. I read the guide and the metal under the battery was cutout and replaced. Very clean car but it had a carb instead of FI. I made an offer based on the good and the bad and drove it home, thanks for the input! BTW- first time driving a 914, freakin thing turns on a dime!
