Finally got my car running last night! Filled it up and noticed the fuel gage only reads 1/4" tank. Do I need a new sender? Can I fix/clean the sender I have?
Thanks, Shane |

You can in fact take it out and clean it up. After removing the sender from the tank, you will notice that there is a small nut on the bottom of the sender that you take off then slide the outer cover off. Just remember to be VERY careful of the thin wire that runs up and down inside the sender. With the cover off, you can hook the sender back up and test it by moving the float up and down while a helper watches the fuel gauge.
Since you have the sender out, take a look at the inside of your tank. You'll see what looks like a tin can inside. See if you can tell the condition of the fuel outlet screen. It tends to get clogged and will eventually collapse causing fuel delivery problems. It can also be replaced but this requires removal of the gas tank. GS |
