Dealing with dIffering distributor orientations
I just yanked my new 009/Compufire unit to replace it with the 205F unit that came with
my carbed 914 and DIDN'T backfire...and I notice that the rotor position relative to distributor drive position was different. Am I going to have to pull off a valve cover and orient this thing fron scratch? I hate that! BTW I'm awaiting shupment of the 205 AA I ordered through Checker from A1 Cardone...they sent me a 205A for a 75 1.8L! No way to talk to Cardone directly, I guess, so I just sent it back and re-ordered by the car. But I had this distibutor lying around, complete with points, so I figured I'd use it. Installed it. Now car does not run. |
Oh, BTW, I used the cap/rotor from the 009 for the 205F.

Mine was off also by 90 degrees, I just moved the wires to the correct towers. I don't think it functionally makes a difference.

This happened to me as well. The one I got had the TDC mark on the dizzy 180 degrees off. It may not make a difference if you rotate the plug wires, but why not get the correct one? I took the rebuilt back and got the 205AA.

I don't think I was clear here in my post. What I was saying is the 205F was different than the 009 in the way the rotor lined up relative to the drive gear. Somehow I expected this to be the same....
