I was in a hurry to hook up my distributor
and reversed the coil leads on my Compufire and got a Compu-FIRE ( literally) under my distributor cap. Smoke billowed out! I suppose I'm back to points for now. Anyone else seen this? |

I've heard the COMPU-FIRE units don't take too well to being mis-connected.
Here it is, taken straight out of the COMPU-FIRE website (009/050 units):

Yah; in a similiar vein, don't ever disconnect and reconnect the + and - out of the Compu-fire in the dizzy while the coil is energized. Oh the humanity... It's kind of easy to do if, let say, you had disconnected the small ignition/oil pressure sensor/etc. loom off the relay board and you were continuity checking other things with the key on. Reconnect the loom, and voila, a deceased Hall cell...
I don't get it, the car ran perfectly before I started doing the checks... |
