914/6 tranny

A shout out to everyone. I have a 914/6 tranny that I'm putting in a 1957 356. I need to flip the ring and pinion. Is this very difficult?

if it is a real -6 tranny , sell it and buy a -4 unit, geared better, the dif is easy to flip , it the same case as a 911 912 trans

The end cover is different on the 914 transmissions, and probably less suitable for hooking up the gear shift linkage than the early 911 trans.

That said, it's not difficult to flip the R&P in a 914 trans. That's how the factory built them, by flipping the R&P of a 901 gearbox.

Far better to sell the 914 transmission and buy a 911 or 912 transmission. No flipping required, and the gearshift is set up correctly already. Not to mention but the vent is not correct for the application either.
