| Cost of a rebuild
Can anyone tell me what an "average" cost of a long block rebuild for a 2.0L would cost: 1. If I do it myself ie, parts and machining? 2. Have someone do it for me I looked at a couple websites and saw longblocks for over $3500. I thought this seemed expensive??

To be honest, that's about the going price if you want a "properly assembled" longblock. Notice I emphasized, "properly assembled." There IS crap out there. Unless you're absolutely versed in the intricacies and knowledge of rebuilding & assembling a 914-4 2.0L, this isn't a job for the unsure or faint of heart. Don't teach yourself on this engine; mistakes can be expensive. I can't recommend anyone else but Jake Raby's Aircooled Technology, if only because this guy's about the most knowledgeable and prolific contributor/lurker/annoyance to this and ShopTalk Forum's Type 4Rum websites. He'll tell you the T-4 mass rebuilders pro's & con's and what it's going to cost you if you attempt a rebuild yourself, whether you buy from him or not. The guy's a class act. WOW, Thanks for the boost!!! I never try to be an annoyance, however I do what it takes to get the point across. Doing something right is not fast and easy...We do our engines one at a time, and would rather rebuild yours./ 3,500 is actually a little more than what we charge if a customer has a core engine, or if they send theirs to us..Shipping is cheap with our method.. Rouser, Thanks for the kind words, it is nice to see them pop up on the screen. We try, and I work 18 hour days to keep engines going through our doors. i'm not just the owner, but also 50% of the workforce.. ------------------ Jake Raby Raby's Aircooled Technology www.aircooledtechnology.com
