need help tuning webers
 

I need some help tuning my webers. They were running allright, but a little rich until a family member decided to "help" me adjust them. Now the car barely runs, and I don't seem to be able to get things straightened out. Also, when I listen to one carb through a hose, it makes an odd flapping noise. What does this mean? Any help would be very much appreciated.

The easiest book I got on the subject is called the "Weber Tech Manual" by Bob Tomlinson sold by CB Performance. Give em' a call and order it.

It goes over everything from its origins to setting up to fine tuning. A very handy piece of reference.

You most definately need the Weber book and it available at most autoparts stores such as Pep Boys, Kragen, etc. You also need a flow meter which you make have to order from PP or CB so you can accurately measure each cylinder flow. Don't try to do it by ear as it is too hard. Since you did not say which Weber model you have a guess would be that they are too lean. A basic adjustment is as follows: 1. Remove the air cleaners, 2.Unhook one carb from the cross bar linkage, 3.Adjust idle speed screw until the buterflys just move off closed, 4.Open mixture adjust approx 1.5 turns from closed, 5.Close the air adjustment screws, 6.Start the engine but don't hit the throttle and let warm up some, 7.Measure each cylinder airflow and adjust idle mixture and speed as per Weber manual, 8.Shut off engine when finished, 9.Hook up cross bar linkage, insuring the throttle plate on the carb does not move, 10.Start the engine and recheck the air flow for each cylinder and readjust as necessary.
