Center Console Install

I installed the gauge package for my center console last night. I believe I havve all the wiring in the correct spot. However when I turn my ignition off the the power to the gauges does not turn off. Any ideas? How can I test my oil temp sender to be sure it's working properly? I let the car run about 5 minutes and the temp never rose. The thermostat is adjusted correctly.

TIA,
ShawnO

I'm guessing you got the wire for the clock (black, +12V always) mixed up with the power wire for the gauges (red/white, +12V switched).

About the only way you can test the sender is to check its resistance as it heats up. The resistance will drop as temperature increases. It can take a while for the needle to move.

If you have the temp gauge on the dash, they will both read abnormally low. The gauges are now in parallel so they will never read correct temp. My daughter's 914 was like this and I finally took the console temp gauge out and use the hole for a large red oil pressure light. Good luck.
