I've installed nearly everything on my 914 that goes on it. As many of you know I put a 2.0L out of a 1974 into my 1975 car (prev. a 1.8L). I have a couple of pieces of sheet metal that attach to the heat exchangers (I think). I think these pieces only go on a '75 and '76. If you follow the link below it is the piece 3 and 4. The link below refers to the '73 and '74.
http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/parts/engine/engine_compartment_sheet_metal_large.htm What exactly do the pieces do? I've had type 1 motors in the past and they didn't have these 'extra' pieces of cooling tin. I'm sure they are there for a reason but I'm wondering if I can drive it around like it is for a while. Anyone have these for sale? Thanks all and God Bless America, ShawnO 1975 2.0L |

They are "warm air guides" that direct warm air towards the rear of the car. I also think they protect the pushrod tubes from crap flying up and hitting them. They are a different size and shape for the 73-74 cars than the 75-76 cars. This is due to the different exhaust systems. I hope you are putting the 74 exhaust on your 75 car. It gets you a few more hp as it is less restrictive. Yes, you can drive around without them lots of cars have them lost them over the years.
