Post My 6-conversion update

* I finally had a chance to start the 2.2T ive installed into my 1974 914. See my web page for an update on this.

www.farleydw.com/914.html

A few questions is i can.

Fire/idle>
I have a damned Marelli. If anyone has a Bosch for a 2.2T 1970, let me know price and condition.
It goes erratic with the idle until the carbs/engine are warm. But then, i could be better.
Possibly the Marelli isnt helping on the idle. The timing is said to be OK.

Fuel/oil >
A lot of blue fuming, which have almost dissapeared once the mess was out of the exhaust.
One of the plug is constantly wet, with oil as the smelt indicates. Possibly the rings.
But i do know that i have too much oil into the engine, bringing a high oil pressure. Could it be that that higher pressure puts rings under stress? Having one cylinder to get oil into?
What are the possible dangers of running on 5 out of 6 cylinders?

Thanks to all and i hope i can bring that thing to the ECR in two weeks.

If the dead cylinder still has fuel injected into it you will "wash down" the cylinder walls with fuel. This washes off the oil film and causes the rings and cylinder wall to wear very rapidly, along with that the gas then gets into the oil and things it out in the rest of the motor.

Thumbs up

Hey Sabin,

Good to hear that you have the 2.2 just about set to go...

...and thanks again for the engine tin that I bought from you via eBay...it's on its way to being powdercoated in time for my engine rebuild project...

You mentioned the ECR in two weeks...where is this taking place?

Okay, I'm stupid...how do you add a hyperlink to your signature without displaying the entire address?

Wayne?

Hi mike, the ECR will take place at Watkin Glens in NY state. Hope we Canadians, can cross the border easily......

Another day another problem, they say. Now this.

The carbs, which have just been rebuilded -according to the mecanics who did the job, are still pissing gas thru the headers.

The needle valves are said to be in good order.
What other possible cause ?

To much fuel pressure? Its presently at 4. How much pressure can the needle valves take without leaking to the floats?

Thanks for replying and helping.
