Market price and jet sizes for Weber IDF 40's?
Hi all,
My dad is arranging to buy some IDF 40s for the 914 I'm helping him fix up. What is the going rate, with linkages and filters, assuming everything is in usable condition? The seller wants $500. Should manifolds be included for this price? Also, can anyone recommend jets/vents for a starting point in tuning them? They're going on a 1.8, with (I assume) a mild cam. I've tuned IDFs, but have never had to set them up before. Many thanks,

I bought a set of new ones with linkage and manifolds for just under a grand (if I remeber right) from the Type 4 store. Put them on and with no adjustments they are running fine. Probably should go in and fine tune but the premium I paid for new was well worth the headaches I saved myself.
Good luck!

I bought a set of 40's with manifolds, linkage, and air cleaners for $350.00 a few months ago. I cleaned the outsides and the fuel bowls and blew out the passages, bolted them on and it ran perfect. They were already jetted for a 1.7.
If you know what cam you have Jake at the type 4 store should be able to tell you exactly what jets, emulsion tubes and venturis you need and sell them to you, a 1 step process. Last edited by sww914; 04-25-2008 at 03:17 PM.. Reason: faulty keyboard |

Hmm... ok.
I guess I'll try to bargain the guy down a bit, then give Jake a call to get some jets for it. Thanks for the advice, guys.

It's not a huge difference but whether they are older Italian Webers or newer ones that, IIRC, were made in Brazil, has some impact on the value of them. It could mean the difference between $350 a set and $500 a set. Figure out exactly what you are buying.
Also make sure the shafts are rock solid on them. If they need to be rebushed and rebuilt, the whole purchase will cost you more than if you just bought some new ones. Lastly, I would expect everything needed to make the conversion at that $500 price. For that much, manifolds should not be extra...
