Brake help needed! why wont my brakes release following new rotors/pads

Hi and thanks!
I have repllaced my front rotors and pads for the first time and have run into an issue being that following the first pedal depression the brakes won't release.
When I installed the rotor and new pads everything went on smooth with minimal force. The new pads slipped in very easy.
I completed both fronts, hopped into the car and pumped the brake a couple and tried to move the car and in felt like the brakes were 'on'.
I took the wheel off to inspect, the rotor was super tight and wasn't spining. I wacked it with a rubber mallet a couple times and the rotor worked itself free again. I checked the fluid, even removed a mall amount.
Popped the whell back on and same issue; after the firt pedal depression it seems like the callipers wont let go of the rotor.

Any suggestions or guidance will be most appreciated!!
Thanks
James

Sounds like your calipers are frozen. Has the car been sitting for some time? Did you try bleeding them yet? If that doesn't help you may need to rebuild or put on new calipers. The rears do need to be adjusted for "venting" clearance after installing new pads. PIA that's described in Hayes manual. It's not the adjustment thats a pain it's the fact that the screws & adjusters ( 35 years old) are usually frozen. There are plenty of good calipers around though if you don't want to try rebuilding, I may even have some fronts.

Good luck!

By any chance did a rubber fluid line get twisted so that it is acting as a one-way valve?
Rubber lines can fail internally, but if replaced with original rubber lines every 15 to 20 years then they seem to work well.

It is possible that the internal pin, for the retractor mechanism, is not working well. Perhaps exercising the pistons would work. Is it binding on one piston alone or on one caliper alone or on both front calipers at the same time? Was the system working well up until the time you did the work, or had the car been sitting for an extended period?
