AAAUUUGGGHHH !!!
If anyone is interested, failure of an external oil thermostat to close, thus routing cold oil to an external oil cooler
gives you this:http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...oolerblow1.jpg |

JP,
And your garage WAS so clean. You didnt blow this while the car was running did you? Was this all due to a bad thermostat? Kelly |
I was starting the car in the shop preparing to go autocrossing.
Tho I haven't pulled any parts yet, the thermostat (external) is supposed to route cold oil around the external cooler.....just to protect it from excessive pressure. No oil should have been going that way. It pumped out about 10 quarts in maybe 20 seconds. All thru a split maybe 1 1/2 inch long X .03 wide. A fine mess. Troutamn thermostat, BTW. JPIII JPIII |
JP....just courious, where did you mount your external oil cooler?

Bummer:( At least it happened stationary, and not while driving.

LOL, I bet JP's gonna be real happy to see this thread come back to life.
(inside joke). |
Oh geez.... I should've known someone would have to start this up again (sorry, JP)!;)
