914 Trans in Bug?
Will a Porsche 914 Transaxle bolt up to a VW Beetle pan?

germanlook has a write up on installing the 901 in a bug, pretty detailed

You'd be better off with the 901 transmission out of a 911 rather than a 914 - otherwise you will need to flip the ring and pinion on the 914 trans to work in a rear engine application

Not to mention the linkage is easier to fit to the 911 version.
It won't bolt up without a good bit of fabrication, and will require clearance-ing of the transmission tunnel, and modification of where the shifter bolts to the top of the center tunnel in order to fit the 901 gearshift lever. --DD |
If you can find a nose cone from a 901 along with some linkage, and you have to flip the ring gear so it will turn in the right direction. I have seen dune buggy owners use the 914 trans with cable shifters to ease the rod installation but you must flip the ring gear. It does make since to start with a 914 trans if cost is a factor for some reason prices for that trans seem really low.

I'm going to go with a 914 setup instead of a rear setup (Mid motor)! I'm going to cut the back of the beetle pan off and go from there!
