shifter bar on a 6 conversion

I've heard that the shifter bar must be modified to fit around the headers/heat exchangers after a six conversion. Is this true? What kind of modifications are we talking about? It may only be for tail shifters, but that's what I have anyway. Thanks,

If you're converting a -4 to a -6, and don't use the factory engine mount (welded to the firewall), you'll have to have the shift bar modified (read: bent) to cross over most engine mounts. Has nothing to do with the heat exchangers/headers or anything else. I have a prime example in my garage!

I'm using the bulkhead engine mount, 914-6 heat exchangers and still have my /4 tailslapper on. Was sure that the shift rod would fit without modifications. Nope, had to get a little creative with the shiftrod.

shift rod has to clear the heat exchangers. Don't know how it is with headers but my shift rod now looks like:

Rear ---> Front
+---\_______/-----

I'll be going to a sideshifter and i know that you have to take the bend out of it by cuting out the bended part and welding it a straight part from an old tailshifter rod.

For a 6 conversion using a sideshifter existing shift rod needs to be straightened (by bending) & then shortened to suit. (grind or drill out spotwelds, push the end in a bit, & then re-weld). nothing to it.
