Buzz Buzz Buzz

Hello,
I've been busy of late, but a couple members know that I recently picked up a bumble bee down in Texas. I keep getting asked privately for pictures. Well, here it is, finally.

The 916 front spoiler is coming off. It's being replaced with the correct one off the Orange Skittle:

It was also hit hard at some point and has a lot of bondo in that side. The car came with a perfect 1/4 to replace it. The Fuchs are switching to the orange car as well. It's my intent to make the LE pretty correct since it's really all there. As such, it's going back to 4 bolt. The other car is destined to be the hot rod.

And not a bad interior for a 30 year old car. Most of it's original. It needs a dash, as they all do. But the back pad is brand new and even a factory one! I've got a shift knob in my stash. etc. etc. And so it begins...

Matt, I don't have a center console on my little 1.7 so I don't know ... what gauges are mounted in there?
Gawsh ... What a sweet car you got there.

That's the standard 2.0l console. It's a clock, voltage, and oil pressure.

Hello,
I am going to bump this thread from time to time over the next couple of years as I go through this car and make it "right". I finally found some time this morning to get this car running. It actually didn't take much, but it doesn't run too well.

I am kind of short on time right now because I am getting married in 4 days. So, work I would have normally done on my own car has been entrusted to a local P-car mechanic (Randy@ Boulder Autowerks if anyone here in Colorado ever needs someone) to go through it and give me a professional initial inspection. The car barely made it the 15 miles to Boulder. It stalled 4 times, each time threatening not to come back to life. But it made it with a lot of left foot braking and a constant right foot on the throttle.

I fully expected the distributor to need to be retimed for altitude since I bought that car as sea level and brought it up here to Colorado. What I didn't expect was an engine rebuild with 800 mi on it to be put back together with a dizzy that was junk. It's rusty and the points were shot. The plate is done and basically it needs a rebuild. It also has a POS autozone coil on it. Thankfully I have good used replacements of both parts here at the house and can drop them off in the morning.

The other thing is the fuel lines. Even though it was "just" rebuilt, it sat for 2 years after the rebuild. Who is to say whether or not they were done two years ago with the rebuild, but the lines are garbage.

On the upside, the brakes are rock solid and it shifts as good as a 914 tranny ever gets. It's also clearly not the stock suspension. It's way tighter than my '73 and I can't wait to track this thing later this summer.

That's it for now. I am sure that more will be revealed as Randy digs deeper tomorrow and the day after.
