Does anyone make a distributor cap for an 050 dizzy that would use a more reliable connection? Say something along the lines of GM's HEI caps or Fords EEC caps. These caps have male terminals and the wires snap securely onto them. I know it doesn't seem like that big of a deal but I have spark plug wires back out on me from time to time. I usually notice when it is doing it but I've had a plug wire come loose from the cap twice in the last 4 years. Wouldn't matter much but the car was on the track and in a race both times. I've glued them onto the cap, wire tied them onto the cap, have several wire separators to hold down vibration and it still happens. Have replaced the wires several times. Have tried factory wires, Taylor race wires, and a few others. I've lost track of all the brands I've tried and have come to the conclusion it is in the design of the cap. Would it hurt anything to make my own by soldering my own male terminals to the Bosch caps and building my wires using HEI ends?

I make my own plug wire sets from Accel universal 8.5mm wires and their ends fit very tight on both the cap and plug. If you get the universal big block CV8 set you will end up with a life time supply of plug wires (2 sets). Good luck.

I think I will try that fix too. I had my coil wire back out at Road Atlanta this year. Pretty disgusting setting on the side of the track for something so minor. I have tried several fixes also, but this sounds better. When using the Accel boot on the plug end, do you have to put the screw on terminal knob back on the top of the plug?

I think the Accel wires require the knob to be put back on the plug. I'd use a bit of locktite to make sure it won't come loose. The rubber plugs that seal the engine tin will work with the larger boots, just be careful when you slide them on. Good luck.

I thought I was the only person with this problem. I'm running the 050 dizzy and I've had the plug wires come loose several times. I've tried different wires too. So John, the Big Block Chevy universal 8.5 Accell wires work? Are those non HEI wires? What do you use to seal the tin? How much are they? I guess I can call Summit.

You can upgrade to 911 parts on the cap you allready have.

In fact I can´t see your problem, but I know there is much cheap dirt around witch only looks good but ain´t work good.

I know that some caps seem to be a bit undersized on the terminals then simple use a rubber o ring and roll the rubber socket over it. Sometimes you need to make a little groove to avoid rolling down the O-ring.

For heavy duty use just change over to the complete electric enclosed ignition witch has screw on terminals and are 100% thight and water proof. But you also need special spark plugs then ( Bosch WB or WC types ).

There are also special made connectors witch will fit on normal caps ( Those screw on type caps where to expensive for the normal military use ).

Those parts can be searched at the cataloge from your local Bosch dealer. ( At least in germany )

I tried the correct Bosch wires first. The number 1 plug wire kept comming off of the plug. For some reason, the back plug terminals are long tall towers. I think the VW type IV tin is deeper, or something. They required that I unscrew the sparkplug ends before installation. I think its harder for the plugs to grab and hold the threaded ends, but what do I know?

I use MSD wires. You can order a vw set that has boots to cover the cylinder tin. Har to get on but they work.
