Post Power Antenna

Has anyone installed a power antenna on a 914. I need a new antenna and thought that a power would be convienent and attractive. Let me know if anyone has any ideas of what antenna to use. I want to keep it short and durable due to the exposure of the antenna.

I have one of those small window mount powered antennas, just mounted it inside the back window and ran the wires up along the sill plate. Works great, and you can't even notice it. Cost about 25 bucks.

My 74 has a power antenna that raises when the radio is turned on - You're right, it is convenient. Don't ask me how its wired, the PO installed it. I think they are available at your local parts store or auto/stereo store. It looks like PP no longer carries the power antenna's, but still has the manual ones. BTW the orginals were made by Hirschmann and had a "bright finish" (according to my restoration guide).

Should work just fine as long as your radio unit is modern and has the lead for a power antenna. This allows the antenna to automatically extend when the radio is turned on. Be sure the rubber grommet in the wheelwell for the antenna lead is in good shape or seal it well with silicon. Otherwise you will end up with water inside the front trunk that will pool below the brake fluid reservoir.

Cool

I had a black hirschman power antenna installed in mine after a coworker accidentally broke it and forgot to tell me about it. I like it and would replace it if he broke it again.

Is there a Hirschmann electric direct replacement for the 914 or is there modification that have to be made other than the wiring of course.
If so whats the part number and where can you get it(I already looked in Pelican's catalog and cant find one)
If there is not a direct replacement what is used and what modification is needed.
I am also very interested in this upgrade, maybe someone can write a tech article.

Ok, here it is. The P/N is XMXB-22 for the Hirshmann antenna. Good luck finding one. I had the local shop install it for me.

The Hirschmann unit works very well. $30 on ebay once in awhile.

BTW my original 74 came with a BLACK manual Hirschmann antenna. Actually, no 914 radio/antenna is from the factory as they were all installed locally by the US dealers. So they installed whatever they felt was correct or available.
