Instrument Dashboard Panel Lights Not working
 

Okay, guys, next question. None of the dashboard instrument lights work. I checked my manual (yes, I have the original) and I could not find a fuse listed for the gauges, is is a bulb that is out? If so, how do I change it?

The lights are in parallel, not in series, so having one blow will not take out all of them.

The headlight knob has a rheostat in it; you turn it to change the brightness of the instrument lights. Try twisting it each way and see if that helps.

I am not as familiar with earlier cars, but there is a fuse for the instrument lights in the 74+ cars. It's fuse #7.

Check for a loose ground wire.

You can take out the screws that hold the gauge panel on place and see the wires behind it. If I remember correctly each light also has it's own ground and/or the gauge is also grounded. Use a volt meter to see if there is any voltage at the lamp socket when turning the light switch knob as it should change. I noted on my 1973 the key had to be on for any lights to work but on our 1974 it can be in accessory position and the dash lights will come on?

The Speedometer, Tachometer and Oil/Alt gauges all simply pull out from the front of the dash. They are held in place by friction between the rubber surround and the hole in the panel. You can put your hand under the dash and push the gauge out.

The Speedometer may need the speedo cable and trip meter reset cable removed before it will come out far enough the change a bulb.

You probably have a few bulbs that are burned out and they can be ordered from PParts. You prob won't find them just anywhere. Forget Advance or AutoZone. (Same deal with fuses ... order a few of each color from here)

Also be cautious of wiring that can be unplugged while you're monkeying around under the dash.

The light in my Heater/Air control panel can only be reached by standing on my head :)
