Header and Muffler Suggestion for 73 2.0
 

I would like to buy new headers and Muffler with 2 in and 1 out or other recommendaiton.

Can't seem to find anyone selling headers and mufflers for 914

please help

What's your budget? If you want the best go with Tangerine Racing. A little less, go with Triad. Cheap, find a used Eurorace or Kerry Hunter setup.

What's your budget, and what's your intended use? How necessary is it to have good heat, or mediocre heat, or some small pretense of heat?

Usually actual headers are four-into-one or four-into-two-into-one, with carefully designed merges--dual-in mufflers aren't going to work with those.

There are options out there, but they may not be exactly what you want.

Good points Dave. I saw "headers" and perhaps took it too literal. :)

If you don't want actual headers, finding a used set of early HEs, or better yet SSIs, might be the way to go. (Not too hard to find if you use the classifieds at the various 914 sites.)

For real headers with heat, Tangerine has a solution.

The real question is what sort of headwork, cam and induction are you using?

My car is completely stock, i restored a few years back, seem to be having trouble finding SSI's, not too concerned with budget, I would like heat.

\Seems like tangerine is the way to go......would like the car to breath a bit better, a little better sound and maybe a bit more pep.

How about a single out muffler?

Based on all the above, don't pass go....... Straight to CFR/Tangerine.

From my reading, the Tangerine setup will give you enough heat for defogging the windshield, but not enough to really seriously heat the cabin. They are the best headers that I have heard of, though, and will help produce more power than any other option. They are very expensive indeed, though.

SSIs produce the most heat, but they are a bit hard to find. Check all of your favorite classifieds sites for used sets; they generally do not wear out.

Stock exchangers are probably the least costly way to go that will give you good heat.

Stock-type mufflers work pretty well; relatively quiet but making decent power. The Bursch muffler/collector is roughly equivalent to stock power, but is noisier. Some people say that the Triad West muffler/collector makes more power than stock; I don't know myself. Most of the "quad outlet" type of mufflers are simply noisy, and they tend to produce less power than stock.

A local customer has informed me that my heat exchanger setup on his stock 2 liter produced enough cabin heat for driving comfort down to 32 degrees ambient temp.
Performance-wise you can expect nearly a 10 hp increase over SSIs with a Bursch on a bone stock 2 liter.
