Weber question-throttle hanging open

Hi guys,

I have a 2.0 in the 912E with twin 40mm Webers. Recently, one carb has become increasingly unable to return to idle. It is not the linkage or the springing. I believe that the center "shaft" (for lack of a better word) is hanging up somehow.

Is this a common problem? Rebuild time? Anyone have any experience?

Right now the car is parked, because it won't idle below like 4000RPM!

Thanks

David

I noticed this happened to a friend with dual 40IDF's after sitting for a few months; the carbs looked a bit crappy down the throats.

I shot 'em with carb cleaner down the throats while revving it to clear out the varnish, and cleaned up the linkage. Although they did need a fresh cleaning/rebuild, it did free the stickiness.

Make sure the shafts are free with no linkage hooked up and loosen the nuts on both sides to test it. If the little bearings get too much goop in them or too much tightening of the nuts on the shaft, the shaft and butterflys will hang up. Good luck.
