Any one make there onwn 8mm Wires.

I was thinking about making my own spark plug wires from x number of feet of 8mm wire, 90 deg boots for the dizzy and staights through the tin.

Has anyone done this and is it much cheaper.

Thanks

I use 8.5mm Accel universal big block V8 kits and get two sets for my race car. They come with a good crimper tool and no ends have pulled loose yet. On our stock 2.0l I use factory wires. I don't think they are any cheaper but they handle the high voltage from the MSD box better. Good luck.

What was used for the seal around the hole in the sheetmetal. My stock seals are all ratty and torn.

Thanks

Va914,

The grommets for the sheet metal can be found. I'm not sure if PP stocks them. I happened to get lucky with (sshhhh) Auto Atlanta, and got them cheap. you might even be able to find something comparable at your local Ace Hardware. its just that most grommets don't have such a large inner area of thin rubber the way the originals do.

Good luck,

Check with some of the bigger independant parts stores. When I work in one about six years ago, Standard Ignitions, Borg-Warner, and a Beck-Arnley still listed a part number for the air seals. If all else fails buy a cheap set of bug wires just for the air seals. Plus they are still making air-cooled bugs in Mexico and Brazil, at least one of the thousands of VW parts importers should have them. I can't remeber but I think the later big fat ends on the 454 chevy fit in the hole and seal it up by themselves.
