need help to identify my 914 engine

hello, i got a 72 914 that has a build date of 9/71 and has a w code motor but the id # it is located where a 2.0 should be..any clue why it is in the wrong place?this is supposed to be a one owner original car..

oh yea the # is w0126528 and it has a tail shift 5 speed

If it's up on the front, it's likely a VW 411 motor. It should be identical to the 914 1.7 one, apart from the serial number location.

i think your right

yeah i found that the heater blower motor was missing the mounting holes through the shroud, so its not the original motor.from the motor number it looks to be a 71 model motor i think..thanks for your help..atleast its a motor thats right for the car huh..
