V8 Q: Stronger Trailing Arms

To hold the power from a strong V8, I'm interested in using the hubs, bearings, and brakes from another car, probably either a 930 or 928. Problem is, the bearings won't fit in the trailing arm of the 914, and the arm isn't very strong anyway, even with the boxing kits installed.

I know of at least two people who've built their own trailing arms. Has anybody else here done it, who would be willing to share construction details and experiences? Are there any other ideas on how to skin this cat?

I hope this is enough to jog someone's memory, otherwise it won't be a lot of help...

Anyway, early on in Porschelist's history, there was a small company that periodically advertised interesting go-fast goodies for the 914. One of them was a trailing arm built from aluminum or steel tubing. The geometry was supposedly all identical to the stock arm's.

I would be surprised if they couldn't put on a larger area for the bearings, if you provided some measurements for them.

I don't know who they are, maybe someone else does. Or, you might be able to do a "list by date" on the porschelist.org website and just page through until you find them.

Hope this helps some.
