My family car dropped a valve seat and destroyed the head & block. I am installing a rebiult engine to replace the damaged one. I plan to install a third seat belt (lap belt) for my 5yo daughter. I will continue to let her ride with me when the family car is repaired. What are your thoughts about this, would you did this?

Personally if you are talking about putting the young'in inbetween the seats with a lap belt, I wouldn't do it. I suppose the addtional belt could be bolted in the same place as the existng ones. But how secure would it be to have some one sit in the middle? NOT SOMETHIG I WANT TO TEST EITHER!

Apparently additional belts for the centre seat were available as an option under p/n 914.803.021.10, but I've never found out if they're still available or whether it was merely a lap belt or something more substantial.

Trade the 914 with someone at work or rent a car IMHO.
In a frontal wreck your daughter won't be sitting straight forward. Her legs will be in the passenger foot well, this will cause the belt to twist her and possibly causing a spinal fracture. Also see if her hear would hit the dash board in an accadent or, god forbid, her head might get impalled on the shifter. Just some pleasent thoughts. I'm not a Dr. or accident specialist so just my one and a half cents. |
