How to clean Fuchs?

Fellow Peli-914-cans:

I have a set of the 4 lug Fuchs unmounted yet that eventually I'd like to put on my teener. They are in decent shape but the finish has some issues.

I'd appreciate any opinions on the best way to clean them without destroying whatever finish they have.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Just curious, what are the issues with the finish?

You might want to send a PM to '70 Fasty (Alex Magro). He restores Porsche wheels, he lives in Tampa, and he is a long-time member of this website. He is very knowledgable and honest. Highly recommended. :)

There's also an article on how to do this at http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/concours_corner/concours_corner-4.htm

Hi Genrex, Thanks for the reply and info! :)

These wheels just have some minor discoloration and spotting here and there - nothing what I'd consider major. I just wanted to see other than a good washing with car wash soap, others have done to clean them up. I have a jar of Mothers wheel polish and will probably experiment with some very light wiping using that product. These wheels do not look anodized like the 911 Fuchs so it should be easier to clean up any blemishes I'd think.

I'll submit some photos when I get a chance.

Thanks again for the input - I really appreciate it SmileWavy

Thank you Mangrum - I will try some light polishing with the Mother's product, which I've used in the past on other non-Porsche wheels with success.

Will post before and after photos too. Thanks again! :)

The lower spots of the wheels should have a milky clear anodizing on them, while the raised parts look like bare metal. I think they may be anodized, too, but I'm not sure.

You Tube video of the 914 Fuch

Funny - I googled "914 Fuch" and found this video:

When I see this kind of video I always think it's because the owner is selling them and wants to reciord their image for potential buyers but I didn't see any evidence of this.

Interesting nonetheless http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/161.gif

Thanks Dave - I didn't know that. They seem to not have any coating on them. I will get them out of my storage unit this weekend and inspect them closer. I will also post a few pics.

Thanks again! SmileWavy

I always thought getting them anodized black , polished really shiney on the rim would would be cool, always liked that look on Pop's Carrera Cab, maroon car. Whatever that black finish on those wheels is, I don't know how they put it on
