distributor/carb Question

Hello all. I'm new to the type 4. I have a 2L from a 914 that I bought with a fuel injection system still attached, minus computer. I have attached a set of 40 webers. Do I keep the the stock vacuum advance distributor. Where would the vacuum hoses go to? Or should i buy a replacement mechanical advance? And will this change the timing setup?

Thanx for all your help.

You can use that dizzy for now, but the advance curve won't be optimal. You won't be using the vacuum advance at all so you can just pull the vacuum hoses from the advance canister. Won't hurt a thing.

In the long run you'd be better off buying a strictly manual advance unit. But there aren't a lot of options at the moment. Apparently the Mallory that everyone was using now has quality issues. I'm not entirely certain what they are exactly.

AFC Fuel Injection to Carb Conversion

New to the group.

I'm restoring my '74 914 1.8. I bought it new however have had it with the fuel injection, thinking of moving to Webber(s). My question is, for this size engine, will one carb be enough or will it require 2 ? Already went to electronic ignition and it helped the starting, however, I'm looking for dependability. I want to drive the car, daily !

Thanks

I have seen a few 914's here in Canada with a weber progressive setup, so i know there is some popularity with that configuration. You would have to play with the jet sizes a bit, but overall, the progressive is really easy to tune and run. When my Ghia had a built up 1700, the progressive worked great. Easy starts and good performance.

The single-carb setup works very very poorly on our engines. The long runners with no provision for any heat means you get a ton of manifold wetting and lots of fuel drop-out. They are all but impossible to tune as a result.

They are the worst way you can get air and fuel into the engine, IMHO.

If you must go carb'ed, duals are the only way to go.
