200hp type IV clutch?
I've got a 2.4 liter type IV that's converted to upright cooling which is going into a vw bug. It's putting out about 200 bhp. The car will probably weigh around 1700 pounds and will be running 245's on the rear. Can someone suggest a clutch package?

I have used a Kennedy Engineering Stage I pressure plate & a stock 911 6 spring disc behind my 200+ hp motor (a 2.7L 6) for 7 years. Last winter I took it off when I was rebuilding the motor .......and put it right back in.
A pic of the flywheel. Didn't even wipe it down. ..... ![]()

Yep, my sachs performance 911 6 spring with stock pressure plate has stood up to about 150 runs so far with my new 2316cc. that was with new 10" wide tires as well as lots of driving like an adolecent teenager on the street.

I'm curious if the stock pressure plate will work for me as well.

What trans does the car use? if it uses a type 1 tranny the 914 flywheel, clutch and pressure plate are NOT compatible.. The ring gear offset is incorrect, the release bearing and pressure plate are also not compatible.
I push 250HP through the 200mm conversion flywheel that we make coupled to a stage II pressure plate and Aircooled Engineering "Copperhead" clutch disc. 200 HP is on the brink of being too much for the stage 1 set up.. remember: Torque is what creates clutch break away, not HP...Tall tires and tall gears are also catalyst for clutch slippage. The interchange of clutch/flywheel and trans is critical to the TIV engine conversion for a beetle. I have all compatability memorized, feel free to ask.

I've got a Porsche 902 5 speed rebuilt by Wevo with a lsd and should soon have the complete bug@5speed kit delivered. I actually left your message service a message yesterday looking for a call back on this and a few other items. Thanks for the input.

Things have been crazy here, I finally finished my shop addition and moved into the new office today, so I have been unavailable.
I will call you tomorrow, sorry for the delay. With the 902 the 914 parts will be fine, so I'd use a stage II plate and a stock disc, or a stock plate and a 6 puck disc.. The stock disc will be less radical on engagement, especially in traffic.

Hey Jake. I'm getting ready to order the aluminum kennedy pressure plate and stock 911 disc from you. Is the aluminum pp a stage II?
Thanks- CB |
