transmission oil seal stuck!

the oil seal at the clutch end of my transmission ( 1.7 tail shift) has been butchered by the PO, and he used a stack of 'O' rings behind the guide tube to try and keep the oil in - so the clutch is soaked.
Any ideas on how to get the old remains of the seal out? The sharp screwdriver trick doesn't work!
TIA
Neil

Depends on how much of the seal is still there. If possible, partially screw a couple of drywall screws into the seal and pull it out by pulling on the screws.

Good luck

Get a seal puller. Takes all of 5 seconds to remove the old one and you won't be scratching up the shaft either ...

Neil, what sort of fool was the PO? Who would go to all of the work to separate the engine from the tranny for a seal leaking and then not fix it with the proper part. Maybe you should look everything over real well before you drive it!? Maybe it has plastic hose for brake lines.

LOL - I have driven the car for about a year, so i know all its problems - and i had many - a non runner when i got it - like brake pads embedded so far into rear discs that they would not turn!
