Pedal Assembly Rebuild
The clutch return spring on my pedal assembly broke. I am having a time trying to get this thing apart. The pin is out but I can't get the clutch pedal off the shaft.
Is there a trick or do I need to take it to a machine shop and have it pressed off? |

A shop is a good way to go if they are cheap, close, and responsible. I tend to do things like this at 1 am when everyone is closed. I've taken apart 3 914 clusters and 930 cluster once. They are ALL a PAIN! Use a 4" bench vise, some heat (I only had a propane torch) and a lot of cussin'. Clamp the end of the cluster where the clutch cable goes into (it's an odd shape so it will most likely pop out of the vise a lot) and try to rotate the clutch pedal. First make sure that all the peices to the roll pin are out. Eventually the pedal will come off, after a few hours of torture.
You can try to drive the shaft out, but I haven't seen a good way to support the pedal while hitting the shaft. Most shops will have various fixtures to support it, so again a shop is a good way to go. Also check out the tech articles on this site. There is one on rebuilding the cluster. Wayne discibes doing the same thing I'm telling you to do by using a screwdriver to pry it off. In my experience (all the cars were from S. Florida or Northern Ohio, so rust was a factor) it takes quite a bit more effort. |

Wayne is there a core charge? Do you need my old cluster in trade?
I left my pedal cluster at the machine shop today and depending on what they can do I may need another one. |

Well the machine shop did a great job. It was $9 but judging from your previous post it was well worth it. Thanks for the advice.
