Front Trunk Seal

Has anyone ever installed or heard of using a seal similar to the type used in the rear trunk between the engine and the trunk area. Honda uses this style in their rear trunk, it seems that the channel below this seal moves the water out cleanly and makes it easy to clean the channel as well. Isn't this channel in the 914 a problem area for rust, the seal seems to catch all and to promote rust. Anyone have a website in mind for a source on these types of sealing system? How about installing gas charged rams,(for lack of the correct name),on the front and rear trunks, the type used on rear window systems, they PUSH Up on the window when it's opened? Any thoughts?

Don't know about the seals, but I have seen a couple of conversions. The racers just take out the front springs to save a little weight, usually in conjunction with installing a fiberglass lid. On the rear there are kits to do the conversion.
