What air filter to use for 914-6?

Hey, just putting the finishing touches on my 914-6 rebuild (original).
Any opinions on factory stock air filter (one piece rain hat/filter/for both stacks) vs. K&N's?? Also, looking to replace the upper valve covers which leak. Any opinions on original vs tOEM vs. turbo covers vs. covers from Hargett? Thanks, RJ |

For an original Six, I would suggest using the original one-piece airbox with a stock paper filter. K&Ns are noisier, don't really filter better, and may or may not make a little more power. But I would suggest the stock parts just for the originality.
Valve covers, I'm not quite as sure. --DD |

 Thanks, Dave!
Going with the stock original! RJ :) |

 Hey Dave,
What about for a 2.7RS spec running Webers that I'm stuffing into my 914? Will the stock airbox flow enough for my motor? I think I'd remove the snorkel. No originality left in mine, just looking for what works best. |

Some time ago, Bruce Anderson told me that I should get rid of my K&N filters and go back to the stock box. He said that the Stock unit with stock paper filter actually provided more power. Maybe I'll do that one day, but for now I like the look and sound of the K&N's. It gives the engine compartment an open and clean (ok, not clean, my engine is a mess) look.

STOCK.....K&Ns would have to improve to suck.
Rain hats and individual air filters DO clean up the engine bay but if you are an experienced 914/6 guy....it doesn't take long to get the assembly out.... |

I'd like to try these when I find some money:
