Winshield Wiper Help!

I just purchased a 74 2.0, & the wipers don't work. What are the common faults & where should I start trouble shooting? Need to resolve quick since I live in Seattle! Thanks in advance.

In the June 1966 issue of Panorama there is a good tech article on wipers. They say if they do not run: check fuse 13, bad switch contacts, bad motor or broken wires. I'd check them in that order as the wiper motor is a bugger to get to on any Porsche.

I went through that lovly process of swaping out a WW motor/assby. Only to find out that I melted the contacts in the steering column switch.

What happened was I turned the wipers on without any arms on them. When I turned them of I ASSumed they returned to the "park" posistion. So I put the arms on, and flipped the switch. Actually the motor was all ready in the full right posistion, so it turned the arms as if it were a "hood-wiper". I guess the extra strain on the motor (the arms basically jammed against the cowl) melted the plastic internals of the switch.

So follow the previous post, check the fuses, switches and wiring. I'm told that WW motors slow down quite a bit before they die. So if it was a sudden failure, check the wiring.

I had the fuse # in my post wrong, it was for a 911, sorry.
