Major shifting issue! need help!
 

ok so when accelerating and shifting up through the gears it's recently been difficult or impossible to get into second and third gear, but fourth and fifth shift smoothly. Also on the down shifting third seems to never want to engage. second does the same but not as often. finally, first gear has been acting up as well, it sometimes won't let me put it in gear unless i give the shifter a good cycle. I don't really know too much about that area so help would be greatly appreciated.

oh and another thing, my accelerator has a MAJOR sticky spot making it impossible to drive slow but works fine after i push past it. any input on what that could be?

Sticky throttle: Could be the pedal, the cable, or the throttle valve itself. Unhook the pieces and check each one to isolate the problem. Could also be the connections between the parts; hopefully a problem like that will be obvious when you try to disconnect things.

Shifter: Sounds like at least a linkage adjustment issue. The Haynes manual has a procedure for the adjustment. (There is one for side-shifter linkages and one for tail-shifter linkages.) I believe that we have a procedure in our shift linkage improvements article. You should also check to make sure the bushings are OK and not too sloppy. Check our tech article to see where they are.

Make sure your clutch is adjusted properly. Remember that the free play you measure at the pedal includes pulling the pedal upwards away from the floor board.

I agree with Dave. If the bushings have not been replaced go ahead and buy a set. If the coupler bushings go it is nearly impossible to go from 3rd to 4th or 1st to 2nd(ask how I know).

haha ok cool thanks guys. i'll have to check out that stuff. i've been having so many issues with my car in the past 6 months.. it's actually kinda exciting lol
