914-6 A/C compressor bracket

I need some help with setting up a 914-6 for A/C. The compressor will be going on a 2.2 T motor with triple throat Weber's. If anybody has a picture of how a bracket is secured to the engine it would be most helpful. The chain tensioner covers are secured by 10 studs with nuts, and I believe that is where a bracket is mounted to. These studs seem a little light duty to me to hang a compressor from. Ideas?

AFIK, the 914-6 was never set up for AC. One of the 916s was, but they moved part of the firewall to make room for the compressor.

Clay Perrine (sometimes shows on this board, hangs out much more on the 914world.com BBS) has come up with what sounds like a pretty clean setup for his Six conversion. I believe it moves the compressor down below the engine tin on the right side? I forget now.

In a 911, the compressor is on the right-rear corner of the engine--which would be the front-left in a 914. There isn't really enough room for it there in the 914 engine bay.

People have figured out various setups. I'm not sure how well any of them have worked.

Thanks Dave, I have these pics from a couple of years ago and I do not know who's rig it is. Not knowing the engine that well I cannot tell from the pictures what is being used for the strength of support. Maybe you can tell ? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1248794808.jpg

That looks like Clay's setup. He may pop in now that we've started saying nasty things about him.... ;)

914-6 a/c

Dave,

I believe there was a 914-6 factory option. I've seen a set up on E Bay represented as factory 6 a/c bracket. I believe the condensing unit was located upper left. How would someone get in touch with the fellow who makes? has made an a/c system?

Thanks

First, I believe that there were no "factory" air conditioning setups for any 914 except for the one 916. The two types that were offered (VPC and DPD) were generally installed by the dealer, but were made by aftermarket companies. So anyone who was offering a "factory 914-6 air conditioner mount" either was mistaken, or was offering a part that is so rare that I haven't heard of it or seen evidence in the factory parts books. (The latter is possible, but the former is more likely.)

Second, you can find more info on Clay's air conditioning setup by searching on his name (Clay Perrine) and air conditioning on this BBS, as he has posted info on here. You can also search over on 914world.com, where he is more active than here. I believe he has posted more than those two pictures in both places.

Yea.. that is mine.

But you don't want to use that as pictured. It broke the timing cover on that side. If you use it, you have to extend the bracket down to the motor mount.

I had a BIG oil leak because of it.

Hey Clay-

Thanks for posting to the thread. I sort have put the AC on the back burner so to speak. I have been accumulating AC parts however, and am still interested in fabricating the correct brackets to make it all work. Any ideas or pictures that you have that could help would be very much appreciated. If you have already posted them please include a link for me. Thanks-

Do a search for Clewett Engineering they make a serpentine belt conversion kit for 911's.

I just acquired an 2.4 six that was in a 914. It has an A/C bracket. I snap a photo tomorrow... and I'll sell the A/C bracket too if someone is interested. Any ideas on value?

cheers,

I think what you are going to find is it is a standard AC bracket and it was left on when the engine was installed but that it did NOT have a compressor installed on it. But pictures would help make the call.

911 a/c bracket value

well, I had a similar idea a few yrs ago - got the 911 bracket from a SoCal parts yard for $25

knew about Clay's setup - - looked a various hotrod a/c kits that are fairly small - never done anything more with the idea

instead - bought a Miata that has both a/c and heat - problem solved

914-6 AC bracket

Search the 911 Technical Forum on this site for a thread titled DIY Air Conditioning for old Porsches. I posted this thread to detail my custom AC project for a 911T, but you will find details of a bracket I made for the compressor that should work for a 914-6. I am very familiar with the 914's, and I believe you could make a very similar setup work quite well.
