Where does the wire that is hooked to the heater lever ( center tunnel) attach to?

It goes out the back of the engine fire wall to the heater flapper boxes...one each side

Sorry I was not very clear, it's the electrical wire that is attached to the leaver. Where does it go?

goes into the wiring harness to turn on the little square heater light unit (says: Defrost ON /Off) that is in the center of the tunnel in front of the center seat cushion...depending on your car it may or may not be there

There is a wire that powers the "DEFROST" light, but it doesn't really attach to the heater control lever. (I might be off on the earlier cars, it definitely does not on the 74+ ones.)
The wire that attaches to the bottom of the lever goes through the center tunnel to the relay board, where it grounds one of the pins on the heater blower relay when the lever is pulled all the way up. That triggers the relay, which sends power to the heater blower, making the fan run. --DD
