MSD box location, Six Conversion
I need some help determining a good location to mount an MSD box in my Six conversion. I have heard some good ideas...I would love to see some pictures if you have any.

I know I don't like seeing them stuck in the trunk ;) Same with Batteries.

Why not in the trunk?

I think most people that want a MSD are more interested in Performance, than 6 sq. inches of trunk space. You are better off getting them away from engine heat. Since its the only Porsche with 2 trunks, space is not an issue. To each his own!

Retro356 I agree most people that install aftermarket ignition boxes are looking for extra performance. But if these hi tech " performance " boxes can't live in the same environment as the OEM CD boxes then how good are they ? Don't get me wrong I'm using a Mallory digital multi spark box on my 3.0 conversion. The car is at my mechanics getting all the wiring sorted out. I asked him to install the box where he thought was a good spot and he mounted it on the firewall. I'm not saying this is the ONLY place to put these but that's where mine is. If it can't live there like the 30 year old OEM boxes did/do then I'll throw it away and go with a Bosch CD box. Everyone has an idea of what's right and there is no single answer. You want yours in the trunk and I don't. It's all good lets enjoy the cars.SmileWavy

I put mine on the firewall about where the OLD CD box went. And when you buy a tach for the dash, get a later model which will work with the MSD unit.
As a side note, I don't know if it was that my CD was weak, or what, but the MSD unit really smoothed out my idle. Don't buy the CD conversion unit. It didn't work and was wasted money. I had a Factory 6, and it worked great. I used the connection on the relay board to transmitt the tach signal to the dash. I expect you can do the same with the conversion unit. |
