74 914 Backside of Dashboard Color?
I am restoring a 74 914 and have the dashboard out of the car and the backside of it is painted a robins egg blue color. It looks like an original color from the factory. But the car is silver in color. My question is. Is the blue color on the backside of 914 dashboards a standard color from the factory.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1262045266.jpg

Hey Vapors,
My factory six had black/yellow colored primer and serial numbers. That looks like a factory job, who knows maybe fritz at the factory was going from olympic blue to silver and decided to paint the dash that was sitting there? Hard to say, I wouldnt change it personally. |
Generally, the color of the dashboard frame is "whatever they had in the gun when the next frame came through". The frame very rarely matches the color of the rest of the car; it was painted separately and pretty much with a totally random color. Yours looks like Olympic Blue (same color my car started out as!), which was a 74 914 color as well.
Don't sweat the frame color; you won't see it unless you're up to your elbows in dashboard and since they don't match from the factory originality isn't an easy thing to determine anyway... ;) --DD |
Mine also shows some metallic blue back there, but the car is Phoenix Red everywhere else.
I do not envy you getting to reinstall and rewire that dash! Definitely my least favorite area of the car to work on. Of course my car is caged and has non-movable race seats, which significantly adds to the challenge of working on the dash! |
I'm glad someone asked this I was wondering what was up with my car. I've got mine apart now on a silver 75, the dash is metallic orange...
