'70 914-6 Blinking alternator light AND dual blinking turn signals
After searching the threads .... wondering if I also have reversed wires: handbrake warning light and alternator bulb?
Also is the dual blinking turn signals because of a bad ground? Both illuminate when using either L or R turn signal. Thanks Haasman |
Hey.. my '70 1.7 used to do the dual blinker illumination thing as well. Are you trying to fix it or just stating a concern ;)
Maybe your blinking alternator light is because you have a bad alternator? Loose belt? etc. You say you may have them crossed.. did you have the guages out recently? do some rewiring? |

I got the car about a year ago and I am trying to chase down some items.
Blinking alternator light in the dash- I checked the alternator and it seems to be putting out the correct amount of voltage (I will get the values, don’t have them here with me) and recently replaced the voltage regulator. The belt was tight. Light still blinks. It seems that if the engine is a higher RPMS for a while it will eventually go out. But will glow if at idle. Double turn signal indicators in dash- I have read several suggestion, including that there are bad grounds at the turn signals. I checked each assembly but still the problem. Another suggestion was a bad instrument cluster ground .... I will check this further when I pull the cluster since I want to change the bulbs to get greater illumination on the gauges. Check the colors of the wires hooked up to the brake warning light and to the alternator light. If the ones on the alt light include a brown/yellow wire, you have the lights switched around.

I had the same problem with my '72 1.7 recently. It turned out to be the female spade connector within the three wire connector that connects on the relay board was loose. If you look on the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual, it is the D+,DF, D- plug that connects the alternator to the relay board. I think it was D+ that was loose. It goes through the voltage regulator and then to the "Gen" light. I just had to stick a small screwdriver in there from the top to make it tighter. It was driving me crazy chasing down the problem. I had cleaned all the grounds, tested the alternator, tested the VR, etc. Gene at Y'n'Z wiring suggested that I might check this connection. And that was it. Who's a thought a connector like that could get loose? Good luck, Roger |
