Speakers in a 914

My dad is working on fixing up a 1972 914 for me and right now we're getting to the point of dealing with the interior... in other words - we're starting to look into ideas for the sound system.

Any creative ideas for boosting a system?
Speakers at head level?

Basically - I want to turn up the volume and hear the music over the engine when the top is on or off...

Thanks for any help! Pictures are appreciated!

Marissa

These fit in the original location but sound much, much better.

Kirmizi,

Thanks for the post! I'm refreshing a '73 914 and it's nice to know of alternative vendors for interior parts. Could you suggest some additional "go to" vendors that specialize in 914 interiors?

I would strongly encourage you to go with something like shown in the picture above. If your 914 doors have not been cut up already to add speakers, please do not do that. Whatever you decide try to do it in a way that does not involve cutting out metal. Good luck Marissa.

Same place. I've only ordered a pair of speakers and subwoofer from them, but they have plenty of kudos on the message boards for their products.
Door panels, carpet sets, you name it....

+1 on this. I have their carpet and these speakers in my 914-6. With the exception of a busy freeway I can hear the radio just fine. I do not have any sound proofing and a very loud exhaust FWIW. Actually I probably could hear the radio on the highway of I turned the radio up more; it's just too much for me.
