transmisson shaft input seal
 

Hey how does this come out? tough to get a hold of and don't want to wreck anything. Question also when I separated the motor and trans I found tons of oil EVERYWHERE!.
The seal has got to it right? but what about the vent and that square hole right next to it. Is it possible to get oil comtamination in that way? Shouldn't there be a tube or something?

I ran a pair of dry wall screws through the seal and then grabbed them to pull the seal out. Be carefull not to bugger the housing.
Alternatively, you can push the seal into the transmission, take the side off and reach in and cut it. I had to do that on one.
The vent is supposed to point in a certain direction, I forget which.

The vent hole points at a 45 degree angle from the centerline of the transmission case. If you are getting oil into the square hole, you've got bigger problems than just a bad seal. My bet is a bad seal.

Nothing like a bunch of gear heads to help me through the sticky spots. thanks to all. I also pulled the side plate and I can see the other side of the vent tube. wouldn't ya know the bevel end is pointing straight in towards the ring gear. I will fix it no sweat.

sucky job, basically i destroyed the old seal, it doesn't cut well either, had to open up the side cover of the tranny to fish out all the bits and pieces that fell into the tranny, the dry wall screws is a brilliant idea, remember that seal wouldn't cut with a pair of dikes, you live and learn, the hard way sometimes
