Where can I find touch-up paint...

I have a couple of tiny dings and several paint chips in my '75 914 and am wondering where I can find factory touch-up paint. I had the car body professionally restored a couple of years ago but neglected to get any touch-up paint from the bodyshop. Porsche apparently no longer carries this.

My color is Ancona Metallic, paint code L97B. This is a metallic blue, and is a factory color for 1975.

Any tips would be appreciated!

You might want to try an automotive paint suppply store and they can mix up any color you want. They can even put the paint into spray cans (neat for painting your helmet or other stuff to match the car). There is usually a minimum order size, but it is better than no paint at all. I checked with a Porsche dealer a while back and they didn't carry the older touchup paint mixes and suggested the supplier.

My 75 is Napal Orange compared to the 70-74 Signal Orange. I've heard that Porsche used paint in common with the rest of their cars until 74. Then the 914 used VW colors, try a VW dealer, but don't always trust the paint code, 1. My friend got a factory code from a dealer took it to the painter, the painters book was wrong so my friend ened up with a baby purple 930 instead of a midnight blue. 2. Paint fades over the years, if your's is old then do as John suggests and go to a paint store to have them mix up what is on your car, not what should be on your car.

My '75 is Mayan Green and I just spent the last few months seaching for factory paint too. The basic answer is don't waste your time looking. You will have to have it custom mixed.

Since you recently had it restored, contact the shop that did the painting. Even if they didn't keep any of the paint afterwards, they should be able to contact the shop that mixed the paint and get more that will be an exact match. Most paint shops record the "recipe" when they mix up a custom color. Having the same shop do it will not only guarantee a good match, but will save you the cost of having the paint reformulated (the work of doing the match is an additional charge over and above the paint).

You can have the paint put in touch up pens or spray cans as well as in a can.
