Alternator And/or Electrical Problem
My car has been standing for 3 months but amazingly started first time .. so far so good. However, the alternator light started to glow and voltage meter read just less than 12 volts ... suggesting the alternator wasn't charging properly. Then one of the fuses blew and all the dials went dead including the rev counter, the voltage meter, the temp gauge and the alternator light. Any thoughts on what's going on?

Not sure why fuses blew. Recommend you clean battery terminals and replace fuses S9 and S7 and try it again.
Did you rev the engine a little and still had less than 12 Volts? Phil |
To check the charging system on all 914s, including sixes, remove the voltage regulator and place a jumper wire between the two spade holes that are in line. DO NOT jump the two spade holes that are not in line. There are only three holes and the one all by itself is ground. Now start your car and check the battery charge. If the voltage is 14 to 16 volts the alternator is good. If all you get is battery voltage, you need an alternator. We always replace the regulator when we do an alternator. OTTO
